Sexuality, Identity, and Mental Health: Affirming Clinical Practice with LGBTQ+ Clients

LGBTQ+ clients enter the therapy room carrying the psychological weight of minority stress — chronic exposure to stigma, discrimination, rejection, and the ongoing labor of navigating a world that did not design itself around their existence. This 3-hour continuing education course prepares mental health professionals to provide affirming, evidence-based care to LGBTQ+ clients: understanding minority stress theory and its mental health implications, the specific clinical presentations common in LGBTQ+ populations, affirming therapeutic frameworks that support rather than pathologize sexual and gender identity, cultural considerations across LGBTQ+ sub-communities, and the intersection of sexual orientation and gender identity with race, religion, family systems, and developmental stage. Applicable for clinicians across treatment settings and client populations.
