Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Foundations, Clinical Applications, and Evidence-Based Integration
A comprehensive educational overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for licensed mental health professionals. Developed by Marsha Linehan to treat chronically suicidal clients and Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT balances acceptance and change and is now applied across emotion-dysregulation, self-harm, substance-use, eating-disorder, and trauma presentations. This course covers DBT's theoretical foundations, the four core skill modules (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness), the structure of comprehensive DBT, the evidence base, and limitations. It provides foundational, DBT-informed knowledge and earns five continuing education hours; it is not DBT-intensive training or certification. Designed for LPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs, psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and supervised counselors-in-training.
