Ethical Use of Technology in Clinical Practice
This course equips licensed mental health professionals to apply enduring ethical principles to the technologies of contemporary clinical practice. Participants examine telehealth informed consent, privacy and HIPAA security obligations, licensure and jurisdiction, social-media and electronic-communication boundaries, cloud-based recordkeeping, and the responsible use of emerging tools such as artificial intelligence, and they learn a structured decision-making framework for resolving novel digital-ethics dilemmas.

- Apply the requirements of the ACA Code of Ethics Section H (Distance Counseling, Technology, and Social Media) to common technology decisions in clinical practice.
- Construct a telehealth informed-consent process that addresses the distinctive risks, benefits, and limitations of remote care.
- Evaluate the privacy, security, and HIPAA obligations that govern electronic protected health information, including encryption, business associate agreements, and breach response.
- Analyze licensure and jurisdictional constraints that determine where a clinician may lawfully and ethically deliver telehealth services.
