Compulsive Sexual Behavior and Intimacy Disorders: Assessment and Treatment

What you'll learn

• Define compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) per ICD-11 criteria and distinguish it from sexual addiction models, paraphilic disorders, and normative high sexual desire.
• Apply validated assessment instruments including the CSBI and SCS within a biopsychosocial framework for clinical evaluation of compulsive sexual behavior.
• Identify the neurobiological, psychological, and interpersonal mechanisms that maintain compulsive sexual behavior and inform evidence-based treatment selection.
• Describe cognitive-behavioral, ACT-based, and motivational approaches for compulsive sexual behavior that are supported by current clinical evidence.
• Assess and address the specific clinical needs of clients with problematic pornography use, including its impacts on intimacy, relationships, and sexual functioning.
• Identify intimacy disorders — including avoidant attachment, intimacy avoidance, and emotional intimacy deficits — and their relationship to compulsive sexual behavior and sexual dysfunction.
